PV’s on Ballymahon Street carries the main weekend nightlife programme in Longford town, split across two nights. Friday belongs to the in-house DJs, who play the bar side of the venue, and Saturday is when Club Eden opens as a full nightclub. Eden has capacity for 500 and is the closest thing the town has to a purpose-built club rather than a pub running a late licence, with the venue describing a policy of top DJs playing hits from past and present rather than sticking to one genre.
The rest of the building is a gastropub and guesthouse. PV’s won Gastro Pub of the Year at the Irish Restaurant Awards, serves food daily with an extensive wine, beer and cocktail list, and has fourteen renovated en-suite bedrooms upstairs, which is a practical detail if you would rather not organise a lift home. A private function room takes up to 75 guests for sit-down meals or finger food, and the nightclub has VIP areas available for private hire, so birthdays, hen parties and work nights out are all handled here. PV’s also hosts one-off events beyond the weekly nights: the venue is on the Samhain programme at the end of October with a theatre show on 29 October and a family Halloween afternoon on 30 October.
PV’s is on Ballymahon Street in Longford town centre, a couple of minutes’ walk from Main Street and from the bus and rail station off Battery Road. Longford is on the Dublin to Sligo railway line, and Bus Eireann services run to Dublin, Mullingar, Athlone and Sligo, though late services do not cover a club night. On-street parking is available nearby but fills up on Saturday evenings, and the town’s car parks are the safer bet. Taxis rank in the town centre. Guest rooms at PV’s itself remove the problem entirely for anyone travelling in from around County Longford.
