What to Expect

Kitty’s Bar puts live music on from 10pm every Saturday, and it is the quieter of the two rooms running music at Crown Quarter on the same night. The venue describes it as a more relaxed, stylish setting suited to cocktails and catching up, which sets it apart from the Crown Front Bar next door, where a band at 10pm hands over to DJs and a full late bar until 2am. If the Front Bar is where the Saturday crowd goes to dance, Kitty’s is where you go if you want to hear each other talk.

Crown Quarter runs three bars under one roof on Monck Street, including a cocktail bar, with the covered Garden Bar taking the Friday night music slot and Kitty’s and the Front Bar splitting the Saturday. The acts rotate through a pool of local and regional performers rather than a fixed resident, so the sound changes week to week. Performers listed across the venue’s current season include Willow Lane, Rag Doll, Presto, Still Crazy, Shane Murphy, Andrew Berry, Mick Buggy, Mary Crosbie, Darragh Byrne and Nick Murphy in August, and Lee & Fitz, Ollie Dempsey, Point Blank, Ruben Buggy, Divine Invention and Le Cheile in September, though which bar each act plays is confirmed week by week rather than published in advance.

Monck Street is the busiest stretch of Wexford town for late-night venues, so most Saturday nights here involve moving between rooms rather than staying in one. Jasper’s Restaurant is in the same complex for food beforehand.

Getting There

Crown Quarter is on Monck Street in Wexford town centre, a short walk from Main Street, the Bullring and the quays. Wexford’s O’Hanrahan station on Redmond Square is about ten minutes on foot, with Irish Rail services from Dublin Connolly and Rosslare Europort. Drivers come in on the N11 and M11 from Dublin, roughly an hour and forty minutes, or the N25 from Rosslare, about forty-five minutes. Monck Street has very limited parking, so use one of the town-centre car parks.
