At Monroe's Live · 14 Dominick Street Upper, Galway, Co. Galway, H91 WD2H
Monroe’s runs its late night venue on Saturday nights with doors at 11pm, picking up after the live gig in the main room has finished. The format is a rotating DJ booking rather than a single branded night: DJ Corey Herself takes Saturday 15 August and DJ Flako takes Saturday 29 August, with further names announced through the autumn on the venue’s gig listings. Because Monroe’s programmes a full live schedule alongside it, the late night room is the part of the building that keeps going after the band packs up.
The venue also drops in one off club nights that sit outside the Saturday pattern. The 2Tone Klub plays on Saturday 26 September with doors at 10pm, Club 30+ runs an over 30s club evening the same day with doors at 6pm, and the Backstage Room hosts promoter nights such as the Absent emo night in September. Monroe’s is in the West End on Dominick Street Upper, a few doors from Roisin Dubh, so it sits at the centre of the strip that carries most of Galway’s late night trade. Check the gig listings before travelling, since door prices and start times move with each booking.
Dominick Street Upper is in Galway’s West End, across the Wolfe Tone Bridge from Shop Street and about a ten minute walk from Eyre Square. Ceannt Station and the coach stands on Fairgreen Road serve Irish Rail, Bus Eireann, Citylink and GoBus. Street parking in the West End is limited at night, so the Jurys and Dyke Road car parks are the practical options, and taxi ranks operate on Dominick Street and Eyre Square at closing time.
