The Common Knowledge Quiz at The Ol' 55

What to Expect

WOMP Events run the Common Knowledge Quiz every second Tuesday at The Ol’ 55 Bar on Prospect Hill, a short walk up from Eyre Square. The format leans on trending and throwback trivia in equal measure, with telly and film rounds, a photo round and a song round, and the exact make-up shifts from quiz to quiz rather than following a rigid template. Prizes go to the top-scoring teams and there are spot prizes scattered through the night, with bar tabs and gig tickets among them.

Doors are at 7pm and teams register on arrival, with the photo round usually done during that window. Round two kicks off at 8pm and the whole thing wraps around 10pm, so it is an early-doors option rather than a late one. Tickets are priced by table rather than only per head: €20 buys a table for four, €10 a table for two, and a single ticket is €5, which makes it straightforward to join an existing team or turn up as a pair. The quiz has run fortnightly through 2026 on dates including 16 and 30 June, 14 and 28 July and 11 and 25 August.

Getting There

Prospect Hill runs northeast out of Eyre Square towards Bohermore, which puts The Ol’ 55 about three minutes’ walk from Ceannt Station and the Eyre Square coach stands. The Eyre Square and Corbett Court multi-storey car parks are the nearest and, unusually for a Galway night out, the 10pm finish means they are still open when you leave. City bus routes serving Bohermore, Castlepark and Ballybane all run along the same road.
