What to Expect

Rhythm and Roots run AfroFusion as a single ticketed arc from mid-afternoon to closing, which is a format Galway sees less often than the standard 11pm club night. The day session opens at 3pm with authentic African food, a BBQ built around suya and braai, shisha, music, games and outdoor summer drinking in Electric’s garden. It is built for people who want to arrive in daylight and stay put rather than pre-drink elsewhere and turn up late.

From 10pm the same night the venue switches to a full party through to 2.30am. Tickets are sold in three ways: a day party pass covering 3pm to 9pm, a night party pass covering 10pm to 2.30am, and a combined day and night pass for the whole run. The event is strictly over 18s and the organisers operate a no-refund policy, so pick the session you actually want before booking. Electric Garden and Theatre is one of the larger multi-room venues on Abbeygate Street Upper, with an outdoor garden that makes the daytime half of this workable.

Getting There

Abbeygate Street Upper runs off Shop Street in the pedestrianised city centre, a five-minute walk from Eyre Square and from Ceannt Station for trains and Bus Eireann and Citylink coaches. There is no parking anywhere near the door: the nearest multi-storeys are Corbett Court and Eyre Square, and both close overnight, so a car is the wrong choice for the full-night ticket. Late-night taxis rank at Eyre Square and on the Salthill road, and the night-time bus services from the centre are the usual way home for anyone out past 2am.
