What to Expect

Crown Quarter runs Music Bingo every Wednesday night from 9pm to 11pm, and the venue lists it as free entry. Music bingo swaps numbers for songs: instead of a caller reading out numbers, a host plays short clips and players mark off track titles or artists on their card, with the first full line and full house taking prizes. It works as a midweek room-filler in the same way a table quiz does, with the advantage that nobody has to know any general knowledge to join in.

The night runs inside the Crown Quarter complex on Monck Street, which houses several bars including the street-facing Crown Front Bar, the covered Garden Bar and Kitty’s Bar, with the Crown Bar Cocktail Club running from 7pm to 10pm Monday to Thursday in the same building. That makes Wednesday a straightforward night out in one place: cocktails from seven, bingo from nine. Monck Street is the busiest late-night stretch in Wexford town, though a Wednesday is a quieter proposition than the weekend, when live bands take over at 10pm in the Garden Bar and the Front Bar. The venue does not publish a prize list or a sign-up process for Music Bingo, so turn up and ask at the bar, or phone 053 912 1480 to check it is running on a given week, particularly around bank holidays and the October festival fortnight.

Getting There

Monck Street runs through Wexford town centre, a couple of minutes on foot from Main Street, the Bullring and the quays. O’Hanrahan station on Redmond Square is about a ten-minute walk, served by Irish Rail from Dublin Connolly and Rosslare Europort. By road it is roughly an hour and forty minutes from Dublin on the M11 and N11, and about 45 minutes from Rosslare Europort on the N25. Midweek parking in the town centre is easier than at the weekend, but Monck Street itself has very few spaces, so use one of the town-centre car parks.
