What to Expect

Knox’s Bar and Storehouse on Abbey Street is one of the main live music rooms in Ennis town centre and puts on entertainment most nights of the week. The pattern is trad early and loud later: traditional Irish music sessions run through the earlier part of the evening, with flute, bodhran and singers working through the standards, and then Irish bands take over. At weekends the DJs play late with current chart music, which is what makes Knox’s one of the anchor stops on an Ennis night out along with the other Abbey Street bars.

The venue is split between the pub and the Storehouse, which gives it the space to run a session in one room and a band or DJ in another, and to take large group bookings for birthdays, hens and stags with music, food and a private seating area arranged in advance. Three wide screens show football, rugby and GAA, so big match days pull a different crowd from the music nights. Knox’s does not publish a fixed weekly timetable online and points people to its Facebook page for who is playing on a given night, so check before travelling specifically for an act.

Getting There

Knox’s is on Abbey Street in the middle of Ennis, a couple of minutes from O’Connell Square and next door to the town’s other main late bars. Ennis is on the M18 between Limerick and Galway, and the bus and rail station on Station Road is about a ten-minute walk. Friar’s Walk and the Market are the nearest public car parks. Late-night buses out of Ennis are limited, so taxis on O’Connell Street are the usual way home.
