What to Expect

The Origin market is Strabane’s monthly gathering of local food producers, held on the last Saturday of every month at The Score Centre on Dock Road and running from 10am to 2pm. Growers, bakers and small food businesses from Strabane, the Sperrins and the Donegal side of the border sell directly to shoppers, which is the whole point of the format: what is on the table is what the person behind it made, grew or reared, rather than stock bought in for resale.

Expect the usual producer market spread of fresh meat, seasonal vegetables, bread, eggs, cheese and preserves, with the mix shifting through the year as the growing season turns over. Because it runs once a month rather than weekly, it draws a committed crowd of regulars who plan their shopping around the date, and the four hour window is long enough to browse properly rather than dash through. The Score Centre is a community and leisure venue in its own right, so the market often runs alongside other activity on site. Stallholders vary from month to month depending on the season and on who is trading, so if you are travelling specifically for one producer it is worth checking ahead. Everything is cash and card at individual stalls rather than a central till.

Getting There

The Score Centre is on Dock Road on the Lifford side of Strabane, a few minutes from the town centre and close to the River Mourne. There is parking on site for market visitors. Strabane bus centre links the town to Derry, Omagh and Letterkenny, and the walk from the town centre to Dock Road takes about ten minutes. Drivers coming from Donegal cross at Lifford bridge and are in the town in a couple of minutes.
