What to Expect

North West Volunteer Centre is delivering Designated Safeguarding Lead training at Killycurragh Orange Hall outside Omagh, running across two Thursday evenings, 22 and 29 October 2026, from 7pm to 10pm each night with doors from 6:45pm. The Designated Safeguarding Lead is the named person in a club, church, hall committee or voluntary group who carries responsibility for child protection: receiving concerns, recording them properly and referring on where needed.

The course sets out the knowledge and skills that role requires and how to put safeguarding into practice within an organisation, which for most rural Tyrone groups means translating policy into something workable for a small volunteer committee. It is aimed at over-18s and is delivered in person rather than online, with four hours of contact time spread across the two evenings. North West Volunteer Centre is a volunteering support body covering the north west, and it runs this training regularly at venues across Tyrone and Derry, so a group that misses this date will usually find another within a few months. Getting There

Killycurragh Orange Hall is on the Maine Road in the countryside outside Omagh, in the Drumquin and Mountfield direction from the town. Omagh itself is reached on the A5 from Strabane and Derry to the north and from Ballygawley and the M1 to the south, on the A32 from Enniskillen and on the A505 from Cookstown. From Omagh, follow local signs for the Maine Road; the hall is a rural venue with parking on site. There is no practical public transport to the hall in the evening, so attendees will need to drive or share a lift.
