Offaly Comhairle na nOg Annual Youth Event

What to Expect

Comhairle na nOg is the child and youth council that every local authority in Ireland runs, giving people aged roughly 12 to 17 a formal way to put their views to the council on the decisions that affect them. Offaly’s annual youth event is the AGM of that structure. Offaly County Council has scheduled the 2026 gathering for Wednesday 14 October at the County Arms Hotel in Birr.

Two things happen on the day. Young people from schools and youth groups across the county hear about the work Offaly Comhairle na nOg has done over the past year, from transport to mental health to whatever topic the previous assembly chose. Then the room votes: attendees have their say on the topic of importance that the Comhairle will campaign on for the coming term. It is the point in the year where the agenda is set rather than reported on, which is why the council pushes schools to send delegates.

Getting There

The County Arms Hotel is on the Roscrea side of Birr, a short walk from the town centre, and has its own car park, which matters when several school buses arrive together. Birr is on the N52 between Nenagh and Tullamore and on the N62 from Roscrea. There is no rail service to Birr, so most attendees arrive by school transport or by car. Allow around forty minutes from Tullamore and just over two hours from Dublin.
