What to Expect

Moycullen Farmers Market runs every Friday afternoon at An Fuaran, beside the GAA pitch and across from the church in the centre of the village. It trades from 1pm to 6pm with over 20 stalls, which is large for a village market, and the afternoon slot means it catches people finishing work as well as the daytime shoppers. Food stalls cover organic vegetables and fruit, artisan cheeses, breads, jams, sushi, meat, fish, cakes and eggs, with a hot food line of crepes, burgers, soups and curries plus a coffee van for anyone eating on the spot.

What separates it from a straightforward producer market is the amount of extra programming. There is live music most weeks, along with children’s activities, workshops and demonstrations, and seasonal special editions built around Halloween, Christmas and Easter. The venue is wheelchair accessible with plenty of parking, which matters for a market that draws a full cross-section of the village rather than just early shoppers. Moycullen sits on the N59 between Galway city and Oughterard at the edge of Connemara and close to Lough Corrib, so the market also picks up passing trade from people heading west for the weekend.

Getting There

Moycullen is on the N59, about 15 to 20 minutes’ drive north west of Galway city on the main road towards Oughterard and Connemara. An Fuaran is in the centre of the village beside the GAA grounds, an easy stop for anyone travelling the N59 in either direction, with free parking on site. Bus services on the Galway to Clifden corridor stop in the village.
