Monaghan County Council runs Climate Action Week across the county from Monday 12 October to Sunday 18 October 2026, listed on the council’s own events calendar as starting at 9.30am on the Monday and finishing at 5pm on the Sunday. It is a week of separate events in different towns rather than a single gathering, and the council’s stated aim is to raise awareness of what people can do at a personal and local level while showcasing projects already running in the county.
Previous editions have set a daily theme and published a schedule for each day, with a mix of talks, site visits, demonstrations, school activity and community sessions spread across Monaghan town, Carrickmacross, Castleblayney, Clones and Ballybay. Attendance at most events is free, and booking is required for some. The detailed day-by-day programme is normally published as downloadable schedules on the council website closer to the week itself, so check monaghan.ie in the weeks beforehand or ring the council directly to see what is running in your town. Because the week moves around the county there is no single venue. Monaghan town, where council-run events usually cluster, is on the N2 from Dublin and the N12 from Armagh, with a bus station on North Road served by Dublin, Belfast and Derry routes. Carrickmacross sits on the N2 south of the town, Castleblayney on the N2 between the two, and Clones on the N54 to the west. Parking is free or cheap in all four towns. Once the daily programme is published, check the specific venue and whether booking is needed before travelling, as some sessions are held on farms or at outdoor sites reached only by car.
