Every Sunday from 7am, Mastertech Business Park on the Athlone Road runs as two markets at once: an indoor hall of permanent stallholders and an outdoor car boot sale in the yard alongside it. Trading finishes at 2.30pm and the site is well established as the busiest weekly bargain market in the county. Entry is free and so is parking, which is a large part of why the same regulars come back to it week after week rather than treating it as an occasional outing.
Indoors, stallholders work fixed pitches selling clothing, homeware, tools and new stock. Outside, the car boot section is where locals clear out furniture, bric-a-brac, tools, records and collectibles from the backs of cars and vans, so the stock turns over completely between one Sunday and the next. Getting there early is the usual advice, since the outdoor sellers set up from first light and the better finds tend to move before mid-morning. Anyone who wants to sell rather than buy can book a pitch through the organisers, whether it is a one-off clearout or a regular stand, and the market’s Facebook and Instagram pages carry the week-to-week updates.
Mastertech Business Park sits on the Athlone Road on the southern edge of Longford town, a short drive out from the town centre and signposted off the R393 towards Ballymahon. There is free parking on site for both shoppers and stallholders, and the indoor hall and the outdoor car boot area are reached from the same car park. Coming from the N4, take the Longford exits and follow the Athlone Road south. Longford’s rail and bus station is in the town centre, roughly a twenty minute walk away, so a car or a taxi is the more practical option for anyone hoping to carry purchases home.
