What to Expect

Every Sunday from March to October, traders lay out stalls along Castle Avenue, the stretch of road running directly in front of Lismore Castle. It is both a farmers market and a craft market, so a table of vegetables or plants might sit beside jewellery, artwork or a baker’s stand. The market closes for the winter from November to February, which makes the Sundays between now and the end of October the last of the 2026 season.

The produce side covers locally grown vegetables, plants and flowers, home baking and preserves, while the craft side brings handmade jewellery, art and gifts from makers working in west Waterford and across the Blackwater valley. The mix moves through the season as different growers come into produce, so late summer and early autumn tend to be the strongest weeks for fruit and vegetables. The setting does a lot of the work: the castle gates are at the top of the avenue and Lismore Castle Gardens are open to visitors, so many people pair a browse of the stalls with a walk in the gardens or down to the Blackwater below the town. It is an outdoor market with no cover, so dress for the day you get.

Getting There

Lismore is on the N72 in west Waterford, about 15 minutes from Cappoquin, 40 minutes from Dungarvan and just over an hour from Waterford city. Castle Avenue runs from the town’s main street up towards the castle gates, so it is a two minute walk from the centre of Lismore. There is on-street parking in the town and a public car park near the heritage centre, both within easy walking distance of the stalls.
