Letterkenny Artisan Market is an indoor market held every Saturday from 10am to 3pm at Unit 1, Carrygally Business Park in Lismonaghan on the edge of Letterkenny. Being under one roof marks it out from most of the county’s markets, which trade outdoors in short weather-dependent windows. Here the traders are set up in a single unit for a full five-hour day, which means a longer stall list and a market that runs the same in November as it does in August.
The mix leans towards makers rather than growers: handmade goods, artwork, crafts and small-batch products from Donegal businesses, alongside food traders selling hot gourmet food, speciality coffee and baked goods. There is a kids’ activity zone on site, which makes it a more workable Saturday outing with children than a standard produce market. Derek Walker and Anna McQuade set the market up to give small Donegal businesses a year-round trading home, rather than leaving them dependent on seasonal craft fairs and Christmas markets for their retail exposure.
It also sits alongside, rather than against, Letterkenny’s other market fixture: the Letterkenny Farmers Market trades outside An Grianan Theatre on the last Friday of each month, so the two give the county town two distinct market dates in a typical month.
Carrygally Business Park is on the outskirts of Letterkenny, a few minutes by car from the town centre, with its own free parking, which is the practical advantage of an out-of-town unit over a street market. Letterkenny’s bus centre in the town connects to Bus Eireann services from Dublin, Sligo and Derry, plus Local Link routes across the county, but reaching Carrygally itself is easiest by car or taxi.
