At Mohill Mart · Green Road, Mohill, Co. Leitrim
Mohill Mart is the only Aurivo-run livestock mart in County Leitrim and the main weekly cattle outlet for the south of the county. The general sale runs every Saturday, starting at 10am with dry cows sold first and working on through sucklers, weanlings, heifers and bullocks. Viewing opens at 10am and cattle must be in the yard before 9:30am. Every animal presented has to carry two ear tags and be properly dehorned in line with Department of Agriculture rules.
From mid-September through December the mart adds a Wednesday evening weanling sale, which is the busiest part of its year and the reason buyers travel here from Roscommon, Longford, Cavan and further afield. Mohill is also known nationally for its Monaghan Day sales in February, a run of category-specific sales named after the town’s old fair day. Buying is done ringside in the traditional style, with the auctioneer moving fast between lots. Sellers pre-book a slot by phone. The mart arranges payment security and can help organise haulage for stock bought on the day.
Mohill is in south Leitrim on the R201, which links Carrick-on-Shannon and Dromod with Ballinamore and Carrigallen. The mart is on Green Road on the approach to the town, a short distance from Main Street, with yard space for buyers and sellers on sale mornings. Coming from Dublin or Sligo, leave the N4 at Dromod or Carrick-on-Shannon. Dromod railway station on the Dublin to Sligo line is about 9km away, and there is free parking around the town centre.
