Sheep Ireland runs a multi-breed hill ram sale at Manorhamilton Mart each autumn, and the 2026 edition is listed on the Sheep Ireland sales calendar for Friday 9 October at 6pm. It is one of the few dedicated hill sheep sales in the country and the only one held in Leitrim, which makes it a fixture for breeders across the northwest and the border counties.
Rams entered in the sale are SIS approved, meaning they meet the requirements of the Sheep Improvement Scheme, and they are catalogued with genetic evaluation data so buyers can compare stock on figures rather than on appearance alone. The sale is multi-breed, so several hill breeds go through the ring on the one night rather than each breed running a separate sale. Manorhamilton is hill sheep country, sitting under the Iron Mountains with commonage running up into the Dartry range, so the mart is a natural home for a sale of this kind. Buyers should come early to walk the pens and read the catalogue before bidding opens. Online bidding has been available at previous editions through the mart’s auction platform, so register in advance if you cannot travel.
Manorhamilton is on the N16 between Sligo and Enniskillen, about 30km from Sligo town and 40km from Enniskillen. The R280 comes up from Drumkeerin and Lough Allen, and the R281 runs north to Kinlough and Bundoran. The mart is on Station Road just off the town centre, with yard parking for jeeps and trailers on sale nights. There is no railway station in the town, so travel by car and allow extra time on a sale evening when the yard fills up.
