The Market Yard Centre in Carrick-on-Shannon runs a craft market on one Saturday a month, in the covered yard behind St George’s Terrace where the weekly farmers market is also held. It is a maker-led market rather than a resale one: stallholders bring art, jewellery, skincare, homeware, clothing and crafted wood, and most of them are the person who made the work standing behind the table.
Trading runs from 12 noon to 5pm, with live music in the yard from 2pm to 4pm, which is when the market is at its busiest. The covered yard means it runs whatever the weather, and the surrounding units, cafes and food traders stay open alongside it, so it works as an afternoon out rather than a quick shop. The market has been running monthly since March and has become a fixture of the Carrick calendar. There is paid and free parking around the town centre, including spaces close to the Market Yard itself, though it fills up on market Saturdays.
