At The Organic Centre · Rossinver, Co. Leitrim, F91 H978
Grow Your Own Gourmet Mushrooms on Inoculated Logs is a one-day course at The Organic Centre in Rossinver on 8 November 2026, taught by Sean Bromley and running from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The fee is €110. It is the cultivation counterpart to the centre’s Wild Mushroom Foraging days, which run three times across September and October, and it closes out the autumn fungi strand of the 2026 programme.
Log cultivation is the low-input method of growing shiitake, oyster and similar gourmet species at home. Freshly cut hardwood logs are drilled, plugged with spawn and sealed, then stacked somewhere shaded and left to colonise before they begin fruiting, typically over a period of many months. November is the right end of the year to be doing it, because the logs want to be cut and inoculated while the tree is dormant and the wood still holds its moisture. A day course covers species selection, log choice, drilling and inoculation technique, sealing and the stacking and watering regime that follows. Booking is in advance through the centre’s online shop, and reduced rates are available for students and people on income supports by contacting the centre directly.
The Organic Centre is signposted off the R281 near Rossinver in north Leitrim, on the road between Manorhamilton and Kinlough along the southern side of Lough Melvin. Manorhamilton is about 20 minutes by car, Kinlough and Bundoran 20 to 25 minutes, Enniskillen roughly 45 minutes and Sligo town around 50 minutes. Free parking is available on site. Public transport into Rossinver is very limited, so participants drive or car share. In November the light goes early and the rural approach roads can be greasy, so allowing extra time in both directions is sensible.
