Kinvara Farmers Market

At Johnstons Yard · Main Street, Kinvara, Co. Galway

Stalls at Kinvara farmers market in Johnstons Yard off the Main Street

What to Expect

Kinvara Farmers Market fills Johnstons Yard off the Main Street every Friday morning with around 25 stalls, which makes it one of the bigger weekly markets in South Galway. The food side runs from lobster and other fresh fish to free-range eggs, cheese, seasonal vegetables and fruit, home-baked organic bread, jams, honey, olives, soup and snacks, with bedding plants and herbs for the garden alongside. It functions as a genuine weekly shop for people in the village rather than a summer-only stop, and it trades to the same Friday 10am to 2pm pattern all year.

The craft end of the yard adds natural soap and creams, jewellery, cards, handmade notebooks, paintings and woollen jumpers, so it is as much a browse as a grocery run. There is a garden area within the yard where children can play while parents shop, and local musicians regularly play through the morning. Kinvara is a working harbour village on the south shore of Galway Bay, home port to a fleet of traditional Galway hookers and host of the Cruinniu na mBad boat festival, and the market has the same locally-made character. Several South Galway towns hold their markets on Friday mornings, so it is possible to take in more than one on the same run.
