Killybegs Country Market

At The Pier, Killybegs · The Pier, Killybegs, Co. Donegal

Country market stalls along the pier in Killybegs

What to Expect

Killybegs Country Market sets up along the pier every Saturday from 9am, directly beside Ireland’s busiest fishing harbour. The early start is tuned to the rhythm of a working port rather than to leisure shoppers, catching people out and about first thing rather than competing with the rest of the day.

Local producers sell crafts, home baking and produce in the standard Donegal country market format, but the setting is what makes this one distinct. Instead of a town square or a community hall, the backdrop is trawlers tied up along the quay and the processing sheds behind them. Killybegs handles a large share of the national pelagic catch, and the harbour is busy with vessel movements even on a Saturday morning. The town is well used to passing visitors given its position on the Wild Atlantic Way between Donegal Town and Sliabh Liag, so the market gets a mix of regulars and travellers who happen to be up early. Country market sessions are short, so this is a market to arrive at rather than drift towards.

Good to Know

  • Next market: Saturday 15 August 2026, from 9am.
  • Venue: along the pier, Killybegs, Co. Donegal.
  • Price: free to browse. Crafts and produce are bought individually from stallholders, so bring cash.
  • Recurrence: every Saturday, year-round.
  • No closing time is published, and country market sessions are typically short, so arrive close to 9am.

Getting There

Killybegs is on the N56 on Donegal Bay, about twenty-five minutes west of Donegal Town, and is served by Bus Eireann and Local Link routes along the south Donegal coast. The market runs on the pier itself, a short walk from the town centre, where on-street parking and the harbour-side spaces cover a brief early visit. Killybegs is worth building a longer morning around once the market wraps: the working harbour, the seafood restaurants along the front, and the Killybegs Maritime and Heritage Centre are all within walking distance, and Sliabh Liag is about thirty minutes further west.
