What to Expect

For July and August the Galway Market drops its weekend-only pattern and trades midweek as well, filling Churchyard Street and the lanes around St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church from Wednesday through Friday. Galway City Council’s thisisgalway listing describes the summer season as a mix of local crafts, gifts, art, and street food, drinks and snacks, so the emphasis shifts a little away from the vegetable and plant stalls that dominate the Saturday market and towards makers and food traders catering to a city centre that is busy all week in high season.

The market’s own site records that traders have been selling in Church Lane beside St Nicholas’ for centuries, and on a good day the site counts its stalls in the hundreds. The 2026 summer run closes on Friday 28 August, after which the market reverts to its year-round pattern of Saturdays plus Sundays and bank holidays. Entry is free and there is no booking, so it works as a drop-in on the way through town rather than a planned trip.

Getting There

The market sits in the pedestrianised medieval core of Galway city, on Churchyard Street off Shop Street, a short walk from Eyre Square and from Ceannt Station, which handles both Irish Rail services and the Bus Eireann coach stands. Driving in is the awkward option: there is no parking on the market street itself, so use the Corbett Court, Eyre Square or Jury’s multi-storey car parks and walk the last few minutes through the centre.
