What to Expect

Dunfanaghy Country Market trades every Saturday from 10am to 1pm at Market Square in the middle of the village, on Donegal’s north coast between Horn Head and Sheephaven Bay. It runs on the country market co-operative model used across the county, where local producers share a single weekly session rather than operating as individual commercial traders. Stalls carry home baking, jams and preserves, crafts and seasonal produce grown or made within a short radius of the village.

Three hours is a longer session than most Donegal country markets manage, and it lands squarely in the part of the morning when Dunfanaghy is at its busiest. The village is one of the most visited stops on the north coast, with galleries, cafes and the Workhouse heritage centre drawing steady traffic through the summer and into the autumn, so the market catches both regular local shoppers and passing visitors. It is at its strongest through the growing season, when the produce side of the stall list is fullest, and the crafts and baking carry it through the quieter months.

Getting There

Dunfanaghy is on the N56 on Donegal’s north coast, roughly twenty-five minutes from Letterkenny through Kilmacrennan and Termon, and is served by Local Link routes along that road. Market Square is in the village centre within easy walking distance of the main street, where on-street parking is the usual option. There is no rail service in this part of north Donegal, so the market is reached by car or bus. Horn Head, Ards Forest Park and Killahoey beach are all within a few minutes’ drive if you are making a day of it.
