Carrickmacross Farmers and Craft Market sets up in Market Square on the first Saturday of every month, running from 9am to 2pm. It launched in August 2024 and has settled into a regular slot alongside the town’s older Thursday street market. The Irish market directory lists it as trading March through December, closing only for January and February, and gives the organiser as Cristina of Celtic Crumb.
The stalls cover seasonal produce, homemade treats and handcrafted goods from small local businesses and individual makers. It is run independently rather than by the council, and stallholders change from month to month, so there is no fixed list of who will be there on any given first Saturday. Home bakers, jam and preserve makers and craft sellers tend to be the regulars. The square sits beside the Market House, home to the Carrickmacross Lace gallery and the Collective craft and art space, so a look around the stalls combines easily with the permanent craft gallery next door. There is no entry charge, no need to book, and the market trades the full five hours in most weather.
Market Square is in the centre of Carrickmacross, within walking distance of the town’s main car parks and the bus stop on Main Street. Carrickmacross is on the N2 between Dublin and Monaghan town, about an hour and twenty minutes from Dublin, and Bus Eireann services on that route stop in the town.
