Carndonagh Country Market

At Colgan Hall, Carndonagh · Colgan Hall, Carndonagh, Co. Donegal

Country market stalls at Colgan Hall in Carndonagh

What to Expect

Carndonagh Country Market trades at Colgan Hall in the centre of Carndonagh on the first and third Friday of every month, opening at 12:30pm. Like the twice-monthly market in nearby Buncrana, it belongs to the long-running country market tradition of small co-operative stalls trading together indoors rather than an outdoor row of gazebos. Producers sell local crafts, home baking and seasonal produce to shoppers from Carndonagh and the surrounding Inishowen parishes.

Carndonagh is the main town of the northern half of the peninsula, well up towards Malin Head, which makes this one of the most northerly market fixtures in the country, never mind the county. The town also hosts Inishowen Livestock Mart on the Newpark Road, so there is a steady flow of rural trade through Carndonagh across the month beyond the country market itself. Colgan Hall is a familiar community venue in the town, used for everything from concerts to meetings, and the market takes over the main floor for its lunchtime session. The pattern is consistent enough to plan around, but the market runs to a short window rather than a full afternoon, so arriving close to opening is worth doing.

Good to Know

  • Next market: Friday 21 August 2026 from 12:30pm. This is the third Friday of the month.
  • Following dates: Friday 4 September, Friday 18 September, Friday 2 October and Friday 16 October 2026.
  • Venue: Colgan Hall, Carndonagh, Co. Donegal.
  • Price: free to browse. Crafts and produce are bought individually from each stallholder.
  • Recurrence: twice monthly, on the first and third Friday.
  • No closing time is published, and country market sessions are typically short, so arrive close to 12:30pm.

Getting There

Carndonagh sits on the R238, the main road looping around the Inishowen peninsula, roughly forty minutes from Derry and an hour from Letterkenny. Local Link and regional bus services stop in the town centre. Colgan Hall is within a few minutes’ walk of the Diamond, with on-street and nearby town centre parking for market visitors. The Donagh Cross and the other early Christian carved stones at the Diamond are a short walk away, so a market visit combines easily with a look at one of Inishowen’s best known heritage sites.
