What to Expect

The Artisan Craft Fair returns to Johnstown Castle for two days over the weekend of Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August 2026, running from 11am to 4pm on both days. The estate lists over 30 stalls, described as hundreds of unique handmade items suitable for gifts or a treat, set up in the museum courtyard rather than out on the open lawns, which keeps the fair sheltered and gives it a contained, walkable layout. Live music plays across the two days alongside the stalls.

Holding it in the courtyard puts the fair inside the wider estate, so a visit doubles as a day out: the walled and ornamental gardens, the lake walks with the castle reflected in the water, and the Irish Agricultural Museum housed in the farm buildings are all on the same site. The estate has a busy August around the fair, with evening bat walks on selected dates through to 27 August, Heritage Week activities including castle tours, estate walks and author talks from 17 to 20 August, and the Pop Up Movie Club screening outdoors in the Sunken Garden between 21 and 28 August, so the craft fair weekend lands in the middle of the estate’s fullest period of the year.

Admission pricing for the fair itself is not set out on the estate’s events listing, and Johnstown Castle normally charges for entry to the grounds and museum, so check the booking page or contact the estate before travelling if you want to know the cost in advance. Cash is worth carrying for stallholders, as card acceptance varies between individual makers.

Getting There

Johnstown Castle is about 6km southwest of Wexford town, near the village of Murrintown, signposted off the N25 Wexford to Rosslare road. There is on-site parking at the estate, which fills up on event weekends, so arriving early on the Saturday is sensible. Wexford town is roughly an hour and forty minutes from Dublin on the N11 and M11 and about forty-five minutes from Rosslare Europort on the N25. There is no direct public transport to the estate gates, so a car or a taxi from Wexford town is the practical way in.
