Wells House and Gardens near Gorey builds its October mid-term programme around the arboretum, where witches take up residence in a set of woodland homes and meet visitors along the way. Children get the chance to cast a few spells before boarding the Wells Express, the estate’s small train, which runs down to the Wells Pumpkin Patch. Every child picks a pumpkin there and takes it home, which is the part most families come for.
The estate covers around 470 acres, so the Halloween trail is only one part of a day out: the walled gardens, woodland walks and animal areas stay open, and Mrs Stone’s Cafe puts on seasonal food for the week. For 2026 the estate has said it is adding further seasonal displays and interactive set pieces across the grounds. The Halloween experience is a ticketed add-on rather than something covered by standard gate admission, and Wells House ask visitors to book in advance because mid-term slots sell out.
Wells House sits at Ballyedmond in north County Wexford, a short drive from Gorey. Gorey is the nearest town, on the M11 between Dublin and Wexford and on the Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort railway line, so it is straightforward to reach from Dublin or from Wexford Town. From the motorway, leave at Gorey and follow the local roads south east towards Ballyedmond. There is no scheduled bus service to the estate gate, so a car is the practical option, and the estate has its own parking. Allow extra time on mid-term mornings, when arrivals bunch around the first train departures.
