What to Expect

Hook Lighthouse puts on Halloween and October mid term activities at the tip of the Hook Peninsula, with the main Halloween day falling on Saturday 31 October 2026. An eight hundred year old Norman tower on an exposed headland needs very little dressing up to feel appropriate to the season, and the lighthouse leans into that with costumes, seasonal activities and its guided tours of the tower.

Two booked activities run across the mid term week rather than on the one day. Children’s art with Rose is €10 per person, and a beginner adult art session is €15 per person. Both are held at the lighthouse and both need to be booked in advance, as the rooms are small. The lighthouse also runs its regular guided tours through the mid term, taking you up the spiral stairs through the medieval chambers to the balcony and the lantern.

Hook Lighthouse has separately run ghostly guided tours after dark at Halloween in past years, with several tours an evening through the unlit tower. Ring ahead if that is what you are after, because the exact Halloween programme and its times are confirmed closer to the date and are not all published in August.

Getting There

Hook Lighthouse sits at the end of the Hook Peninsula in south west Wexford. From Wexford Town it is about an hour, taking the N25 towards New Ross then the R733 and R734 through Wellingtonbridge and Fethard on Sea. From New Ross allow around 45 minutes on the R733. From Waterford, the Passage East to Ballyhack car ferry saves a long loop by road. There is free parking at the visitor centre. No bus serves Hook Head, so drive or take a taxi, and bring warm and waterproof layers because the headland is fully exposed.
