What to Expect

Theatre company Barking Dog bring The Princess and The Goblin to Strule Arts Centre in Omagh at 11.30am on Saturday 31 October 2026. The story follows Princess Irene and Curdie as they deal with the goblins living beneath the mountain, told by two performers using puppets, music and a good deal of audience participation across the hour.

The company pitches it as a mystery and magic story with, in their words, “just a hint of Halloween mischief”, so the spooky element is light rather than frightening. It is written for children aged 5 to 10, which makes it the older sibling to Teddy On A Broomstick playing in the same building at 10am that morning, and families with a spread of ages sometimes book both. Strule bills the mix as laughter, excitement and a touch of spooky sparkle.

Getting There

Strule Arts Centre is on Townhall Square in Omagh town centre, on the bank of the river Strule and a short walk from High Street and Market Street. Omagh sits on the A5 between Derry and Aughnacloy and the A32 from Enniskillen, roughly 70 miles from Belfast, 34 from Derry and 27 from Enniskillen. Council car parks at Kevlin Road, Church Street and the Showgrounds are all within a few minutes on foot. Saturday late morning is the busiest time in the town centre, so leave extra time. Omagh bus centre on Mountjoy Road is a five minute walk with Ulsterbus and Translink Goldline services.
