At Cahir Castle Carpark · Cahir Castle Carpark, Cahir, County Tipperary
Only the published dates are confirmed for this programme.
A Scare in Cahir: Into the Wild takes place beside Cahir Castle on Saturday, 24 and Sunday, 25 October 2026.
The council’s programme names the Sunday evening woodland walk beside the castle as the main event: a dark, eerie trail through the woods with live theatrical encounters drawn from Irish folklore. Alongside it, the Castle Carpark hosts free performances from Lumen Street Theatre, Wobbly Circus, and local musicians and dancers, with sound, lighting, storytelling, face painting and street entertainment running through the evening. The event is part of the Tipperary EU Presidency Culture Programme, which runs from July to December 2026 while Ireland holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. It is funded by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport and Culture Ireland, with the Tipperary Arts Office working alongside local organisers to put the programme together. The council’s listing describes A Scare in Cahir as an annual Halloween festival.
The event is based at Cahir Castle Carpark in Cahir, County Tipperary, beside the castle in the town centre.
Cahir Castle itself, one of the largest and best-preserved medieval castles in Ireland, sits on a rocky island in the River Suir right beside the carpark. Two kilometres south, the Swiss Cottage, a thatched cottage orné designed by the architect John Nash, is worth the walk if you have time before or after the festival. There is more to see in Cahir and across Co. Tipperary.
