The Princess and The Goblin at Wexford Arts Centre

At Wexford Arts Centre · Cornmarket, Wexford Town, Co. Wexford

Puppets and lanterns in a children's theatre production about goblins

What to Expect

Theatre company Barking Dog adapt George MacDonald’s Victorian fantasy The Princess and The Goblin into an interactive show for children aged 5 to 10. Two actors carry the whole story using puppetry and audience participation, following Princess Irene and the miner’s son Curdie as they work out how to outwit the goblins living in the tunnels beneath the mountain. The company describe it as mystery, magic and goblins, with a touch of spooky sparkle, which places it neatly in the Halloween mid-term slot without tipping into anything frightening.

It plays at Wexford Arts Centre on Sunday 1 November 2026, the same day as Teddy on the Broomstick, the centre’s Halloween show for children aged six and under. Between the two, a family with a younger and an older child can do the day in one building. Wexford Arts Centre is housed in the old Market House on Cornmarket, an eighteenth-century building in the middle of the town that holds a theatre, exhibition galleries and a cafe.
