What to Expect

Stormin’ Norman’s is Enniscorthy Castle’s Heritage Week tour built specifically for children. Young visitors are put into period costume and taken through the 800-year-old keep to learn about Norman soldiers, how a castle household actually functioned and the grimmer details of medieval daily life that tend to be the part children remember. It runs for an hour and is led by the castle’s own guides.

The castle gives the tour something to work with. It is a four-towered Norman keep on Castle Hill above Enniscorthy, complete with a dungeon and a rooftop walk looking out over the town and the Slaney. The tour runs twice during National Heritage Week 2026, on Monday 17 and Wednesday 19 August, both at 11am. If you are making a morning of it, the castle also runs a drop-in shield painting workshop for children through the same nine days, so a family can pair the costumed tour with an hour of painting afterwards without leaving the building.

Getting There

Enniscorthy Castle is on Castle Hill in the centre of Enniscorthy, a short walk from Market Square. The town sits on the N11 between Gorey and Wexford. Enniscorthy railway station, on the Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort line, is roughly ten minutes away on foot across the Slaney. Street parking around the castle is pay and display and fills up on weekday mornings, so the larger car parks near Abbey Square are usually the safer bet.
