At The Model · The Model, Sligo, Co. Sligo
Only the published dates are confirmed for this programme.
The Model runs Family Days as a monthly art workshop for children aged 6 and up, each one built around a different technique and led by a local artist. The 16 October 2026 session is themed Colour Theory and Play through Acrylic Paint, running from 11:30am to 3pm. Families begin together in the Atrium with a short tour of the current galleries before moving into the Education Room for the hands-on workshop, so the afternoon combines a bit of looking with a good stretch of making.
Each session is capped by the size of the Education Room, so spaces are limited and booking ahead is genuinely worth doing rather than a formality. Children work alongside a parent or guardian throughout, learning the specific techniques and processes the visiting artist uses in their own work rather than a generic craft activity - October’s session focuses on how colour behaves and how to play with it using acrylic paint, building on skills that carry into the next few months of programming. The Model has November’s Family Day booked in for 20 November, themed Screen Printing II, and December’s for 18 December as a Christmas Special, so families who enjoy the October session have two more dates already on the calendar to plan around.
The Model is in Sligo town centre, a short walk from the bus and train stations. Paid parking is available nearby in the town centre, and the building is fully accessible.
Sligo town’s Yeats sites and the county museum are a short walk from The Model, easy to combine with a Family Day if making an afternoon of it. There is more to see in Sligo and across Co. Sligo.
