At The Model · The Model, Sligo, Co. Sligo
Only the published dates are confirmed for this programme.
The Model runs guided tours of its galleries for school and college groups throughout the academic year, bookable from 1 September 2026 through to 25 June 2027. It is a standing programme rather than a one-off event: any primary, secondary or third-level group can book a slot on a day that suits their own timetable, built around whatever is on show in the Niland Collection and the current exhibitions at the time of the visit.
A staff member or trained guide leads the group through the galleries, tailoring the talk to the age and curriculum focus of the visiting class - art history and technique for older students, a more hands-on, story-led approach for younger children. Because the tour draws on whatever exhibitions are running that term, the specific artworks discussed change through the year, though the Jack B. Yeats holdings in the permanent collection are a recurring anchor point given The Model’s role as the artist’s home gallery. Tours typically run alongside the option of a follow-up workshop in the Education Room for groups that want to extend the visit beyond looking at the walls.
The Model is on The Mall in Sligo town centre, a short walk from the bus and train stations. Coaches dropping off school groups can set down nearby, with paid parking available in the town centre for smaller groups arriving by car.
Sligo town’s other cultural sites, including the Yeats Building and Sligo County Museum, are within easy walking distance for schools combining more than one stop on a visit. There is more to see in Sligo and across Co. Sligo.
