Afternoon Tea at Rockhill House

At Rockhill House Estate · Rockhill House, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal

Afternoon tea served in the drawing room at Rockhill House

What to Expect

Rockhill House is a 17th-century country house set in 130 acres of woodland outside Letterkenny, and its afternoon tea leans on that setting and on local sourcing rather than a standard hotel spread. The menus rotate seasonally. Alongside handmade scones, clotted cream and savoury bites, the kitchen serves poached salmon and house-cooked ham on speciality breads, with pastries and a wide tea list. Gluten-free, vegan and other dietary versions are made fresh to order with the same 24 hours’ notice rather than pulled from a standing tray.

Three versions are offered. The Traditional Afternoon Tea is the classic sitting. The Sparkling Afternoon Tea adds a glass of prosecco or champagne. The Afternoon Tea and Spa package pairs the meal with 90 minutes in the estate’s thermotherapy suite beforehand, which turns it into a proper half-day rather than a stop for an hour. Prices are not published online and are confirmed at booking.

Rockhill operates as a wider hospitality estate rather than a dedicated tearoom, with 27 bedrooms and event spaces used for weddings and corporate stays. That is worth knowing when booking around a busy weekend, since the public rooms are shared with residents and whatever else is on. Sittings are limited and pre-booked, so it is not a place to arrive at on spec.

Getting There

Rockhill House is on its own estate a few minutes outside Letterkenny, off the N56 towards Kilmacrennan. Letterkenny is the largest town in the county and is well served by Bus Eireann routes from Dublin, Sligo and Derry, plus Local Link services, though the estate itself needs a car or taxi for the last stretch. There is ample parking on the grounds, and the woodland walks on the estate are worth arriving early for.
