What to Expect

Downings Bay Hotel serves Sunday lunch in its Haven Restaurant every week from 1pm to 4pm, priced at €22.50 for adults and €12 for children. It is the hotel’s main weekly dining fixture and the one that draws local tables as much as guests, which is generally the mark of a Sunday lunch worth booking.

The Haven Restaurant otherwise opens Friday to Sunday from 6pm to 9.30pm, so Sunday is the only daytime service in the week. That three-hour window matters on the Rosguill peninsula, where dining options thin out quickly once you leave the village and shorten further outside the summer season. A 1pm sitting also works around a morning on Downings beach or a run out around the Atlantic Drive, which is the loop most people come to Rosguill for.

Downings sits on Sheephaven Bay looking across to Horn Head, and the hotel is in the village itself rather than out on the headland. Tables should be booked ahead for summer Sundays and bank holiday weekends in particular, when the village population multiplies with holiday-home and caravan traffic.

Getting There

Downings is at the tip of the Rosguill peninsula in north Donegal, reached on the R245 from Carrigart, which in turn comes off the N56 at Creeslough or Milford. Letterkenny is roughly 45km away and Dunfanaghy about 25km by road around Sheephaven Bay. The hotel is in the village with parking on site. The Atlantic Drive loop starts just beyond the village if you want to build the afternoon around the lunch. Local Link services reach Downings from Letterkenny and Milford but run only a handful of times a day, so a car is the practical option.
