At Sunken Garden, Johnstown Castle Estate · Johnstown Castle Estate, Co. Wexford, Y35 HP22
The Pop Up Movie Club brings a portable outdoor screen into the Sunken Garden at Johnstown Castle for three nights in August 2026. The walled garden gives the setup shelter and a natural amphitheatre shape, and screenings start once it is dark enough, which in late August in Wexford means just after nine.
The line-up is The Greatest Showman on Friday 21 August at 9.15pm, Dirty Dancing on Saturday 22 August at 9.15pm and Mamma Mia on Friday 28 August at 9pm. Gates open thirty minutes before each screening. There is no seating provided, so bring camping chairs or blankets, and a picnic if you want one. Popcorn is sold on site. The whole thing is weather dependent, so check the organiser’s channels on the day if the forecast is poor. Johnstown Castle is a nineteenth-century Gothic Revival house with 120 acres of grounds, three ornamental lakes and the Irish Agricultural Museum in the old farmyard, so an early arrival lets you walk the estate before the film.
Johnstown Castle is roughly 6km southwest of Wexford town, signposted off the N25 towards Rosslare near Murrintown, with a large car park at the entrance. It is a ten-minute drive from Wexford town centre and there is no scheduled public transport to the gate, so drive or arrange a taxi. Bring a torch: the walk back to the car park after a late finish is unlit.
