Messy Play Sessions at Offaly Libraries

Offaly Libraries are running a short series of Messy Play sessions for children aged 4 to 7 across four branches in late summer and early autumn 2026. Messy play is exactly what it sounds like: hands-in activities using textures, colour and materials that children are usually told to keep away from, run in a setting where the mess is the point rather than the problem. Sessions are pitched at the 4 to 7 age bracket, so they suit children in the first years of primary school.
The series moves between branches rather than repeating in one place. Edenderry Library hosted the first session on 11 August at 3pm. Tullamore Library takes it on Wednesday 19 August at 3pm, Clara Library on Wednesday 26 August at 4pm, and Birr Library rounds it off on Thursday 24 September at 12.30pm. Each branch handles its own bookings, so contact the library you plan to attend rather than a central office. Places on children’s sessions in the smaller branches go quickly, so book rather than turn up on the day. Dress children in clothes you do not mind being ruined.
Tullamore Library is on O’Connor Square in the town centre, with pay-and-display parking on the square and larger car parks off Bridge Street. Clara Library is on Main Street in Clara, reached on the R420 from Tullamore or the R436 from Moate, with on-street parking outside. Birr Library is on Wilmer Road in Birr, a short walk from Emmet Square, with parking nearby. Tullamore, Clara and Birr are all on Bus Eireann routes, and Tullamore and Clara both have stations on the Dublin Heuston to Galway railway line.
