Hospice Mile at Tullamore Harriers

At Tullamore Harriers Stadium · Spollanstown, Tullamore, Co. Offaly, R35 CK22

Runners and walkers on an athletics track on a frosty Christmas morning

What to Expect

The Hospice Mile is Tullamore Harriers Athletic Club’s Christmas morning tradition and the club’s single biggest fundraiser for Offaly Hospice. Between 10am and 12 noon on Christmas Day, the club opens its tartan track at Spollanstown for anyone who wants to walk, jog or run laps, with a timed mile race at 11am for those who fancy a proper go at it. There is no strict format beyond that: some people do one lap in a Santa hat with the family, others line up for the 11am mile and try to beat their neighbour. The event has become a fixture of Christmas morning in Tullamore, pulling in walkers and runners of every age and ability before the day turns to dinner, and the club draws in members past and present alongside people home in the town for Christmas.

In December 2025 the club raised €13,851.90 for Offaly Hospice through the event, handed over to the Offaly Hospice Foundation the following February, adding to a run of years of Christmas Day fundraising for the hospice, which provides palliative and end of life care across the county. The 2026 edition runs to the same annual pattern rather than to a schedule the club has announced this far ahead, so the times below are the club’s established ones and are worth confirming with the club in December.

Getting There

Tullamore Harriers Stadium has two entrances: the main one off the Charleville Road heading toward Birr, and a back entrance via Spollanstown Road on the Killeigh side, near Tullamore Rugby Club. Both are a short drive from Tullamore town centre, and there is parking on site, though it fills up quickly on the morning itself given how many families turn out.
