What to Expect

Superpowers is New Ross Library’s book club for children aged 9 to 12 with dyslexia. It meets on the third Thursday of each month at 3.30pm at the library on Barrack Lane, and it is free. The next meeting in the autumn term is Thursday 17 September 2026.

A dedicated group matters here. Children with dyslexia often read slower than their classmates without reading any less keenly, and a general book club can turn into a race they have no interest in running. Public libraries in Ireland hold dyslexia friendly collections, including titles printed with adapted typefaces, wider line spacing and tinted paper, along with audiobooks and paired reading formats, and a group like this is built around those resources rather than around word count. The emphasis is on talking about stories and enjoying them.

Unlike most of the county’s children’s groups, Superpowers asks families to register by phone rather than online or by dropping in. The number to call is 051 421877. That is partly so staff can plan around the number of children attending and partly so parents can talk through anything specific about their child’s reading before the first session.

Getting There

New Ross Library sits on Barrack Lane in the older part of the town, up the hill from the quays and the Dunbrody Famine Ship, a few minutes from South Street. Drivers from Wexford town take the N25 and cross the New Ross bypass bridge before following signs for the town centre. From Waterford the N25 arrives from the west, and the R700 comes down from Kilkenny along the river. There is public parking on the quay and in the town centre car parks. Bus Eireann services linking Waterford, New Ross and Wexford stop in the town centre.
