Junior Book Club at New Ross Library

At New Ross Library · Barrack Lane, New Ross, Co. Wexford

Children reading together at a library table

What to Expect

New Ross Library runs a junior book club for readers aged 9 to 12 on the first Tuesday of every month, from 3.30pm to 4.30pm, at the library on Barrack Lane. It is free and no booking is required. The next meeting is Tuesday 1 September 2026.

An hour is the right length for this age group. The session is run by library staff and built around talking about what the group has been reading rather than working through a set text, so children who are mid-book or who did not get to the chosen title still have something to contribute. Members put forward suggestions for what the club reads next, and the library holds copies for the group. The drop-in format means there is no sign-up sheet and no obligation to come every month.

New Ross Library has three separate children’s and young people’s groups running through the month. Alongside the junior book club there is a baby and toddler story time and rhyme time on Thursday mornings, and the Superpowers Book Club for children with dyslexia on the third Thursday of the month. Between them they cover most ages from babies up to twelve.
