Centre Stage Theatre Company, a Northern Ireland touring company, brings its family Christmas show to the Garage Theatre in Monaghan for two days in December 2026. Santa’s Sooty Christmas tells the story of Rudi, a cheerful chimney sweep working through the days before Christmas Eve to make sure every chimney in town is clear for Santa’s arrival. When one chimney refuses to cooperate, Rudi discovers the cause is the wicked witch Fluella and her sidekick, Freddie the Fearsome Frog, who are determined to stop Christmas from happening. A Christmas Tree Fairy, a Toy Tin Soldier and a talking Christmas Candle join Rudi to help set things right before the big day.
The show runs for two days, Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 December, with two performances each day at 10am and 12pm. It is pitched at young children and their families, with songs, simple stage effects and audience participation built into the story. General admission tickets cost between €7 and €10, and groups of 15 or more can book at a flat rate of €7 per person, which makes it a popular outing for playschools, creches and after-school groups as well as families with toddlers and young children. Tickets are sold through the theatre’s own Ticketsolve booking page, and the box office can also be reached by phone Monday to Friday between 10am and 2pm for group bookings or queries about accessibility.
The Garage Theatre is based on the Monaghan Education Campus on the Armagh Road, on the edge of Monaghan town and a short drive from Church Square and the town centre. The campus has its own car park, so there is no need to rely on street parking in town. Because performances run at set times across the two days, arriving 15 to 20 minutes early is worth building into the trip, particularly for a group with buggies or several small children in tow. Anyone travelling from Castleblayney, Clones, Carrickmacross or Ballybay can reach the venue inside about 30 minutes on the main roads into Monaghan town.
