At Multiple Drogheda landmarks · Drogheda, Co. Louth
Only the published dates are confirmed for this programme.
The Lú Festival of Light runs in Drogheda from Friday 23 to Monday 26 October 2026, turning the town into an open-air gallery after dark with large-scale projections on landmark buildings.
History, myth and imagination are brought to life through projections on three Drogheda landmarks: the Old Abbey, St Peter’s Church and St Laurence’s Gate. Each site pulses with its own animation, light and storytelling, celebrating the town’s global connections, local legends and creative spirit. Shows run on a loop every 10 to 15 minutes at each location, so visitors can wander freely between sites, revisit favourites, and take the town in at their own pace after dark. It’s free to attend and no tickets are needed.
The three projection sites sit within walking distance of each other in Drogheda town centre. St Laurence’s Gate, one of the three, is the best-preserved medieval town gate left in Ireland and a well-known landmark on the north side of the town.
Drogheda is the biggest town in Co. Louth, built where the River Boyne cuts through the middle, with a walled medieval history that runs from a Norman-era town to a 19th-century railway viaduct. St Laurence’s Gate and the Tholsel on West Street are among its best-known landmarks, and Millmount Fort looks back over the south bank of the river. There is more on the town and the wider county at Drogheda and Co. Louth.
