Baby Book Club at Dundalk and Drogheda Libraries

At Drogheda Library and Dundalk Library · Drogheda and Dundalk, Co. Louth

Babies and parents at a library baby book club in County Louth

What to Expect

The Baby Book Club is Louth Library Service’s monthly session for the very youngest readers, and it runs in both of the county’s largest libraries. Drogheda Library holds it on the first Tuesday of the month at 10:30am. Dundalk Library holds it on the first Wednesday of the month at 10:30am. Both are free and aimed at babies and toddlers with a parent, grandparent or carer.

A baby book club is not a reading group in the adult sense. Sessions are built around board books, rhymes, songs and short shared stories, at a pace that assumes babies will crawl off mid sentence and that nobody minds. The point is early exposure to books and to the library as a normal place to be, plus a fixed monthly slot where parents of small children see each other. Library staff usually pull out age appropriate stock and can sign babies up for their own library card, which is free from birth. Both libraries also run a weekly parent and toddler group on Thursday mornings, so families often use the two together, and children’s storytimes are added during school holidays.
