What to Expect

Baby Book Club is Drogheda Library’s monthly session for babies and their parents or minders, held on the first Tuesday of each month at 10:30 AM. It runs alongside the branch’s weekly Thursday parent and toddler group and is aimed at the younger end, before children are steady on their feet.

Sessions like this are about getting books into small hands early: board books, rhymes and songs, with staff on hand to point parents towards what suits each stage. It is also a low-pressure way for parents on maternity or paternity leave to meet others in the town on a weekday morning. Membership of Louth Libraries is free, and joining at the desk on the day means you can borrow the books you have just been reading. Drogheda Library programmes a steady run of children’s events around these fixtures, including storytimes and school-holiday workshops.

Getting There

Drogheda Library is on Stockwell Street in the town centre, a couple of minutes uphill from West Street and the Tholsel and beside Droichead Arts Centre. Drivers from Dublin, Dundalk or Navan leave the M1 at junction 9 or 10 and follow the town centre signs. Parking is available at Scotch Hall on the south bank of the Boyne and at the Laurence Shopping Centre, both a short walk away, with metered on-street spaces nearby. Drogheda MacBride railway station is about 15 minutes on foot, and Bus Éireann and Matthews coaches serve the town from the Dublin Road and the Donore Road bus station.
