Summer Storytime at Edgeworthstown Library

What to Expect

Edgeworthstown Library holds a summer storytime on Saturday 15 August 2026 from 11am to 11.30am, aimed at children aged 4 to 8. The library’s events calendar lists it as free with no registration required, so families can arrive on the morning and take a place without booking ahead.

Half an hour is the standard length for a picture-book storytime at this age, long enough for two or three books read aloud with room for the children to answer back, and short enough that nobody has to sit still beyond their limit. Library staff choose the titles on the day. The session is one of the last strands of the branch’s summer programme, which through July and August has run Wednesday movie afternoons, giant games sessions, Mario Kart tournaments, a Pokemon and football card swap, a pencil drawing workshop and a children’s photography session. Storytime pairs naturally with the card swap that follows at 12pm on the same Saturday, so a family can stay on for both. It also feeds directly into Summer Stars, the national library reading challenge that Longford Libraries run across all six branches through the school holidays, and children who join can log books they borrow on the day.

Getting There

Edgeworthstown Library is on Main Street in the town centre, off the N4 Dublin to Sligo road, about fifteen minutes north-east of Longford town by car. Edgeworthstown railway station on the Dublin to Sligo line is five minutes’ walk from the door, and there is on-street parking on Main Street.
