Harvest Heros: A D&D Story for Young Adventurers

What to Expect

Harvest Heros is a Dungeons and Dragons style adventure written for young players, running at Longford Library on Saturday 24 October 2026. It is aimed at children aged 6 to 12, and no experience is expected: the session is built so that a child who has never played a tabletop roleplaying game can sit down and take part straight away. The story is seasonal, drawing on harvest and Samhain themes rather than standard fantasy dungeon crawling.

The session pairs the storytelling with miniature painting, so children come away with something they have made as well as an adventure they helped write. Two sittings run on the day, from 12pm to 2pm and again from 3pm to 5pm, which keeps the groups small enough for everyone to get a turn. It is free and forms part of the Samhain in the Heartlands programme running across Longford and Westmeath through the 2026 Halloween season.

Getting There

Longford Library is in the Town Centre complex in the middle of Longford Town, a short walk from Market Square. Longford is on the N4 between Dublin and Sligo, roughly two hours from Dublin by road. Irish Rail runs to Longford station on the Dublin Connolly to Sligo line, about ten minutes on foot from the library. Bus Eireann route 23 and the Dublin to Sligo coach services stop in the town centre. Parking is available at the Town Centre car park and on the Mall, both within a couple of minutes’ walk of the door.
