Little Artist Club at Wexford Arts Centre

What to Expect

Little Artist Club is Wexford Arts Centre’s Saturday morning art course for children aged 5 to 7. The autumn term runs for six weeks, from Saturday 5 September to Saturday 10 October 2026, with each class from 10am to 11.15am. It is led by Jeni and Bríd.

Across a term the children work through several mediums, including painting, drawing, collage and sculpture. A distinctive part of the format is that the group acts as art detectives in the Arts Centre’s own galleries, examining whatever exhibition is up at the time and looking at how local and international artists have solved the same problems the children are working on. The September term is themed Our Shared World, focusing on artists who take their cue from the plants and animals of their home places, drawing on indigenous art and storytelling, and teaching stencilling and block printing techniques. The group will work in and around the current exhibition, Memory of a Free Festival.

The emphasis is on experimenting and on each child finding their own way of doing things rather than on producing a matching set of results. Booking the full six week term attracts a discount through the Arts Centre’s ticketing system.

Getting There

Wexford Arts Centre occupies the old Market House and Assembly Rooms on Cornmarket, in the pedestrianised centre of Wexford town, two minutes’ walk up from the Quay. Drivers arriving on the N11 from Gorey or the N25 from Rosslare should follow signs for the town centre and use the Quay car parks or Redmond Square, both a short walk away and easier than the narrow lanes nearer the building. Wexford O’Hanrahan railway station on Redmond Place is roughly ten minutes on foot, on the Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort line. Saturday morning parking on the Quay fills quickly, so allow extra time before a 10am start.
