Leitrim Sports Partnership runs an eight-week Couch to 5k programme out of The Junction Hub on Railway Road in Ballinamore, starting Tuesday 25 August 2026. The group meets twice weekly, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6.15pm, giving 16 sessions across the programme, and the fee is €20 for the full eight weeks.
This is a structured build rather than a drop-in run club: the sessions move participants from a standing start through progressive walk and run intervals until they can cover 5km. It is open to men and women aged 18 and over and the Partnership pitches it as a friendly and social run group, which in practice means nobody is dropped off the back. Ballinamore is well placed for it, with the greenway on the old Cavan and Leitrim railway line running out from the town, the same route used by the Saturday morning parkrun, so there is flat, surfaced ground to train on from the door. Bring running shoes and layers for autumn evenings; the later weeks run into October when the light goes early. Places are booked in advance on Eventbrite.
The Junction Hub is on Railway Road in Ballinamore, a short walk from the main street and beside the line of the old narrow-gauge railway. Ballinamore is on the R202 in east Leitrim, about 25 minutes from Carrick-on-Shannon, 20 minutes from Carrigallen, 30 minutes from Cavan town and 40 minutes from Enniskillen. There is on-street parking nearby and more in the town centre car parks.
