Celbridge Library runs a children’s introduction to Limerick lace on Wednesday 19 August 2026, from 11am to 12pm, as part of National Heritage Week. Lace instructor Christina Kearney leads the session, which is built for children aged 6 to 9 with a parent or guardian staying for the hour.
The workshop is as much about design thinking as it is about needlework. Children are walked through how a lace design actually comes together, then get to work out their own design on paper before trying some of the fundamental stitching techniques by hand. Along the way Kearney covers where Limerick lace came from and why it mattered, so children come away with a bit of the story as well as something they made. It runs the morning after the same tutor’s crochet lace workshop for teenagers at the same library, so families with children of different ages can do both across two days. The session is free but places are limited, and the parent or guardian attendance requirement is firm rather than optional.
Celbridge Library is on St Patrick’s Park, within walking distance of Celbridge Main Street and the entrance to Castletown House. Celbridge is on the R403, about 5km from junction 6 of the M4 and roughly 20 minutes by road from Naas. Parking is available near the library and around the town centre. Buses serve Celbridge from Dublin city centre and from Maynooth. The closest rail stations are Hazelhatch and Celbridge on the Kildare line, around 3km south of the town, and Maynooth station on the Sligo line.
